The Oregon University System want to invest in design and manufacturing as growth areas for Portland.
Oregon’s public universities with a Portland presence – the University of Oregon, Oregon State University, Portland State University, Oregon Health & Science University and Oregon Institute of Technology – are looking to tap into the sea of creative talent here by identifying product design as one of four major investment areas.
Another emerging area is metals manufacturing. Already, the university system has invested millions in life sciences and sustainability. There’s an ongoing effort to close the gaps in funding for a Life Sciences Building at OHSU, as well as for the Oregon Sustainability Center, to be built at PSU next fall.
