San Francisco-based Salesforce.com plans to open a major hub in the Portland area, employing “hundreds.”
Salesforce, scouting locations for a prospective corporate expansion, narrowed its search to Salt Lake City and the Portland area. In the spring of 2011, it contacted Business Oregon, the state economic development office. GPI arranged a site visits for Salesforce in Multnomah and Washington counties.
Business Oregon and GPI proposed incentives from the governor’s strategic reserve fund to Gov. John Kitzhaber, who signed off on a package to offer the company. Details of those incentives remain unclear, but Salesforce ultimately chose Oregon.
