A federal judge in Oregon has lifted an injunction blocking the expansion of the Mt. Ashland Ski Area in Southern Oregon, the latest round in a legal battle that has stretched on for years.
A federal judge in Oregon has lifted an injunction blocking the expansion of the Mt. Ashland Ski Area in Southern Oregon, the latest round in a legal battle that has stretched on for years.
U.S. District Judge Owen M. Panner concluded in his Friday ruling that the U.S. Forest Service had fixed violations of environmental laws in the process of approving the expansion. Those violations were identified in an earlier U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals decision. Opponents plan to ask the judge for a stay pending an appeal to the higher court.
“We intend to appeal,” Tom Dimitre, chairman of the Rogue Group Sierra Club, told the Mail-Tribune. “We think clearly that the Forest Service did not comply with the directive of the 9th Circuit. We think Panner erred.”
