Online banking facilitator Simple made its service publicly available, while co-founder and chief technology officer Alex Payne is stepping down and leaving Portland.
“I’ve come to recognize that the role of CTO isn’t right for me at this point in my career,” Payne wrote on his blog. He was one of Twitter’s earliest employees and top engineers before leaving the San Francisco company in 2010 and moving to Portland.
Payne’s presence here was a catalyst for Simple (formerly BankSimple) moving West from New York. Payne, who is also an advisor to Portland mobile tech startup Geoloqi and to Wieden+Kennedy’s Portland Incubator Experiment, now wants a break.
