This year, “The strawberry season, we had a fairly good crop,” [OSU horticulturist Ross] Penhallegon said. Raspberries were OK, he said. “Cherries were good. And we’re looking at a huge blueberry crop; the berries are gargantuan,” he said.
What happens in the fields and orchards has an impact on Lane County — total farm sales last year came to $125 million, up about 11 percent from 2010 — of which about $89 million was from crops, according to preliminary figures from OSU. Weather can have a major effect on those figures.
