Ducks head coach Chip Kelly’s guaranteed compensation for 2012 already had been scheduled to increase to $3.5 million from $2.8 million under the terms of a contract he signed in 2010. (Seven head football coaches made at least $3.5 million in 2011, according to USA TODAY Sports’ annual survey of coaches’ compensation.)
The new figure for its assistants includes a set of pay increases that were awarded in June and, beginning July 1, gave the nine assistants their second increase in a year. It also includes a total of $450,000 in one-time retention bonuses that six of the assistants are receiving this month under the terms of prior contracts that were incorporated into their current deals and required them to complete the 2010 and ’11 seasons and remain through July 1, 2012.
