Intel wants to build the largest parking garage in Hillsboro for its D1X research factory but didn’t inform the nearby 160 households.

The tech giant is preparing for the $3 billion D1X addition with a five-story, 1 million-square-foot parking garage that will offer 2,950 spaces for workers. The site is at the southern end of the Ronler Acres campus, which is north of Northwest Butler Street and near Northeast 65th Avenue and faces Orenco Station neighborhood homes.

The garage wasn’t a part of the original D1X plan, said Intel spokesman Bill MacKenzie, and the decision for this plan was made “fairly recently.” One day after submitting the completed application to the city in June, the company sent letters notifying neighbors of the project.
