Rural PUD cuts 10 jobs

Faced with higher costs, including rising energy and personnel expenses, and sagging demand for its power, the Emerald People’s Utility District is eliminating 10 jobs, eight of them through layoffs, to try to balance its budget.

The balancing act also will include rate increases of 3 percent next year and 2 percent for each of the two following years, on top of this year’s 4 percent increase, EPUD General Manager Frank Lambe said.

Lambe announced the eight layoffs and the elimination of two empty but budgeted positions to the board of directors on Tuesday.
