A Chilean wood products firm is buying Flakeboard, a Canadian company with seven plants, including one in west Eugene.

A Chilean wood products firm is buying Flakeboard, a Canadian company with seven plants, including one in west Eugene.

The 50-year-old Eugene plant, which Flakeboard bought from Weyerhaeuser Co. in 2006, employs about 75 people and produces composite panels.

Mark Young, a spokesman for Santiago-based ARAUCO, said Friday that the Chilean firm intends to continue operating all seven former Flakeboard plants. The Eugene plant, he said, “is a very good plant. A number of my customers buy from that plant, and like it.”
