University of Oregon has named Michael Gottfredson as sole finalist to replace ousted president Richard Lariviere.

Gottfredson, who will visit the UO campus in Eugene on Tuesday, has served as executive vice chancellor and provost and as a criminology professor at UC Irvine since 2000. He has overseen the academic mission of the 27,000-student university as well as strategic planning and a fundraising campaign.

“Michael’s leadership experience, background in higher education and his proven record of helping students and universities succeed is a great match with the UO and its mission,” said Allyn Ford, member of the State Board of Higher Education who led the search for a new president. “He has a real passion about public higher education.”
