Oregon’s unemployment rate fell to 8.5% in April, from 8.6% in March.
The state’s unemployment rate last month was a full point lower than April 2011, when it was a seasonally adjusted 9.5 percent.
In April, two of the state’s major industries had large job gains, according to the state Employment Department. Construction added 3,800 jobs, when a gain of only 2,100 was expected. The increased employment followed weak hiring in February and March, state economists said.
