Eugene developers with stalled projects could get an extension from the city council.
While current city rules require projects that miss deadlines for action to begin the process over again, a deadline extension being considered by the Eugene City Council could save developers thousands of dollars.
“We have a lot of projects at that stage. They’re on hold,” said Steve Nystrom, Eugene’s principal planner. “Dozens are a fair estimate. There might even be more than that. … We’re hearing from the applicants that they are trying to weather the storm and they want the projects to go forward. They just can’t do it now.”
On Oct. 19, the Eugene City Council will consider whether to grant about 100 developers that hold approvals an automatic three-year extension to get them through the worst of the recession. A vote is scheduled on Nov. 9.
