$33 million in contracts with the 12 largest Oregon state agencies was given to businesses owned by minorities or women, or small businesses considered “emerging,” according to a report by Gov. Kitzhaber’s office.
Although the 2011 amount is up from $5 million awarded by nine agencies two years ago, it also represents a fraction of the $3.5 billion in total contracts awarded by the agencies.
“Our economic recovery is dependent on businesses large and small having ample opportunities to be fair and successful, and the Governor’s Office of Economic & Business Equity is an important part of this,” Kitzhaber said in a letter introducing the report.
