Hillsboro-based Planar Systems’ latest quarterly financial results came in substantially below targets, sending investors running.
Sales in Planar’s fiscal second quarter, which ended March 30, totaled about $38 million. Planar had told investors to expect revenue between $45 million and $48 million, in line with the same period last year.
Planar makes computer monitors, video billboards and high-end screens for home theaters. The company has been struggling for many years to develop new markets for its displays after its onetime specialty — electronic displays for computers, industrial and medical equipment — became less lucrative.
