The Portland-area jobless rate fell to 8.1% in February, down from 8.3% a month earlier.

The outlook continues to be cloudier in much of the rest of the state. Oregon’s seasonally adjusted jobless rate averages 8.8 percent, and 14 counties had double-digit unemployment in February. Central Oregon was hardest hit by recessionary forces in recent years, and Crook County still sports the state’s highest county-wide unemployment at 14 percent. Even there, though, the average dropped from 14.7 percent in January. 

The jobless rate stood at 9.7 percent statewide and 9.8 percent in the Portland area a year ago, in February 2011.
