Portland’s Morrison Bridge is set to open to auto and bus traffic is set to open after one day of nice weather allows workers to paint lane striping.

Replacing the often-slippery steel grating on the 54-year-old drawbridge’s lift span turned into soap opera involving stop-work orders, environmental violations, cost overruns and delays. Oh, the delays. 

The project, which closed lanes and restricted commuter access from the east side of the Willamette River, was initially supposed to be finished right after Thanksgiving.

The prolonged bridge closure has even become a punchline on the IFC TV comedy “Portlandia.”
