Work on Portland’s $4.2 million Morrison Bridge steel grating replacement resumes today, reinstating traffic changes that haven’t been in place since November.

Conway Construction of Ridgefield, Wash., is replacing the grating with a solid deck surface that will provide greater traction. Work on the south half of the lift span has been completed.

The steel grating that has been part of the bridge since 1958 is being replaced with fiber reinforced polymer panels. A similar system was installed on the Broadway Bridge in 2005. Work is expected to be completed in early spring.
