Retired general and former Democratic U.S. presidential candidate Wesley K. Clark has joined SoloPower’s board of directors.

San Jose, Calif.-based SoloPower — a developer of thin-film solar energy panels — is in the process of hiring for its $340 million manufacturing operation being built in North Portland.

Clark, a former NATO Supreme Allied Commander for Europe who briefly sought the 2004 Democratic presidential nomination, is considered a “alternative energy champion,” according to SoloPower CEO Tim Harris.
