Eugene-based bulk tea supplier Mountain Rose Herbs will begin selling its teas in compostable and recyclable boxes.

The tea business is intensely competitive, vice president Shawn Donnille acknowledged. But he said the Mountain Rose Herbs brand already has a following among natural food shoppers, and he’s hoping that the sustainable package will be the competitive edge to get the company’s teas on store shelves.

According to the company’s research, Mountain Rose Herbs’ boxes are the only tea packaging made completely from post-consumer waste — board made from 100 percent recycled newspapers, Donnille said.
