TriQuint Semiconductor posts steep decline


Hillsboro-based TriQuint Semiconductor posted a fourth quarter profit of $4.3 million, a major drop from last year’s $42.5 million in the same quarter.

Hillsboro-based TriQuint Semiconductor posted a fourth quarter profit of $4.3 million, a major drop from last year’s $42.5 million in the same quarter.

Also, the Hillsboro-based company said sales for the fourth quarter, ending Dec. 31, fell 10 percent from a year ago to $227 million. 

But TriQuint, which makes wireless chips for Apple’s iPhone and other popular mobile devices, said its $896.1 million revenue in 2011 was a record, 2 percent higher than $ 878.7 million in 2010. 

“The proliferation of smartphones and emergence of 4G is driving exciting growth in the markets we serve,” chief executive Ralph Quinsey said in a statement. “As a leader in integrated RF solutions, we have both the products and capacity to deliver on the opportunities in front of us. We see solid prospects for growth in the second half of the year.”
