New York-based investment management company Royce & Associates has been Columbia Sportswear’s largest investor for five years.
But late last year, Royce, which manages three mutual funds, tipped the scales into a new status as a heavy investor in the Washington County-based sports footwear, apparel and equipment company.
Royce increased its investment to the point that its roughly 2.1 million shares of Columbia represented a nearly 6.2 percent ownership stake in the company.
