The Prineville City Council voted unanimously to annex 160 acres of land where Apple is considering building a data center.

 

But tax concerns may delay a decision on the project, and the company is apparently considering sites elsewhere in the state, too. 

Apple, which goes by the code name “Maverick” in talks with regional officials, did not respond Thursday to an inquiry on its activity. Maverick had sought the annexation so the city could provide water and sewer services to the prospective site, which sits on the bluff overlooking Prineville. 

“We’re still in discussions with the Maverick group,” said city manager Steven Forrester. “I also have been told we’re not the only location in Oregon that they’re looking at.”
