Venture capital investment in Oregon leaped 114.5% in 2010 to $196.0 million from 35 deals, though in the first quarter of 2011 investment was $43.2 million, a 6.6% drop versus first quarter 2010. Venture capital has been nowhere near the heights achieved during the dot-com boom. Nationwide in 2010, $19.4 billion was invested in 4,447 deals, while Washington companies received $637.5 million from 119 deals and California venture capital totaled $11.6 billion from 1,366 deals. In most quarters, Oregon investment represents less than 1% of total U.S. venture capital, less than 2% of California’s deals and less than one-third of Washington’s.
