The City of Newport has purchased the Newport Municipal Airport for $250,000 from the aiport’s current operator, Central Oregon Coast Air Services. By completing the transaction on June 30, the city avoids paying next year’s airport property taxes because of the airport’s new tax-exempt status. According to airport director Dennis Reno, East Coast carrier Cape Air has inquired about providing daily service between Newport, Astoria and Portland International Airport. Cape Air primarily operates nine-passenger planes. Montana-based Big Sky Airlines also has expressed interest in providing service.
