Eugene-based Baker’s Boots and Clothing Co. acquired Drew’s Boots, doubling its product line and staff.

“It’s a pretty big deal, regionally and nationally,” Baker’s owner Gene Baker said Wednesday.
The company expanded twice last year, growing from about 7,000 square feet to more than 10,000 square feet. With the Drew’s acquisition, the staff has grown from seven or eight employees to 14 full-timers and two part-timers.
The company’s long-time niche has been high-quality work boots that are made in the United States, Gene Baker said. Their biggest competitor — albeit a friendly one — has been Drew’s, he said. When Drew’s owners, Pat and Carol Kavanaugh, decided to retire, they sold the company to Baker. “Pat is carrying the contract,” Baker said.
