Warrenton mill back in business with huge upgrade


Hampton Lumber’s Warrenton Mill came back to life this week. Former owner Weyerhaeuser Co. sold the operation to Hampton, who shut the doors for 20 months to make a multi-million dollar upgrade.

Hampton Lumber’s Warrenton Mill came back to life this week. Former owner Weyerhaeuser Co. sold the operation to Hampton, who shut the doors for 20 months to make a multi-million dollar upgrade.

Now, the mill is fitted with cutting-edge technology that scans the dimensions of each log for optimal use, and can cut each log into several sizes of lumber on the same equipment.

The company has been preparing for opening day for about three weeks, said Bill Slagle, the mill’s new plant manager. Slagle comes to Warrenton from Willamina, where he ran another Hampton mill.
