Increasingly, realtors in Eugene and Springfield are putting QR codes on for-sale signs to provide potential buyers with more information about the property for sale.

The act puts a wealth of information about the house on his or her smart phone screen: Square footage, bedroom count and price, how long the house has been on the market, how much and how often the price has dropped and the sales price for neighboring properties recently on the market. A tap on the screen launches a high-definition video or virtual walk-through of the property, kitchen, bedroom, bath and backyard.

Fuqua Homes was this area’s early adopter, beginning about two years ago. The St. Clairs Prudential group started early this year and many others are climbing onboard the quick response — or QR — trend this summer, as smart phone ownership reaches critical mass. ComScore predicts the penetration nationally at 50 percent by the end of the year, up from 27 percent in 2010.
