TriMet’s Board of Directors voted to raise adult fares by five cents starting in September, in order to keep up with higher diesel costs.

The proposal, which passed with a 6-1 vote, also increases the cost of adult monthly passes by $4 to $92 and youth monthly passes by $1 to $27 on Sept. 1. An adult all-zones ticket will jump to $2.40.

With help from the fare increases, 10 bus lines — 4, 9, 12, 14, 35, 44, 52, 75, 78 and 94 — would have some additional trips added to relieve overcrowding and to “restore schedule credibility.” During evening rush hour, there would be additional Blue Line MAX trains.
