The unemployment rates in all three Central Oregon counties decreased from December to January.
The jobless rate in Deschutes County is now 14.2%, a drop of 0.6 percentage point. Crook and Jefferson County saw their unemployment figures decrease as well, but when compared to January 2010 numbers, the jobless rate actually increased. In addition, all three counties again reported jobs lost in January. Carolyn Eagan, Regional Economist with Worksource Oregon, was a guest Tuesday morning on Wake Up Bend! She said [the recent] losses are common after the holiday season and are actually encouraging.
“What we may be seeing is a return to this typical, seasonal trend, and I’ve been hoping for this for the last 12 months. And I’m hoping as we move into the spring, we’ll start to see more evidence of this return to the normal seasonal trend.”
