The $55 million plant is known as the “Energy Center.”
The building not only provides heat for the campus, it also generates half the electricity. And it stands as a national model for using 21st-century applications to lighten the environmental load of the rapacious process that is the mass generation of power.
OSU expects to cut its light bill about in half, or by about $650,000, although the overall energy efficiency of the natural gas-fired turbine and the boiler will be measured later.
