Portland General Electric has started construction on the Carty Generating Station in Boardman.

The new Carty Generating Station will produce enough electricity to power about 300,000 residential customers when it opens in two years. It will be the company’s second natural gas plant in Boardman.

The plant is next to a coal-fired power plant that is slated to close or be converted to a different fuel source by 2020.
