Mayor Sam Adams says he’s made Portland’s software companies a key focus of his economic planning.

Oregon technology continues to be dominated by computer hardware, and the metro area has been unable to grow a big software or Internet company in well over a decade — even as they sprouted by the score in Seattle and the Silicon Valley.

The mayor will discuss his software ambitions Thursday, before a capacity crowd of more than 200 at a “Software Industry Strategy Summit” inside City Hall. He’s planning for a city “perceived as where you go for the best talent to confront the toughest digital challenges.”
