At the second day of its annual developer forum, Intel touted a series of software initiatives.

Intel is trying to adapt existing technologies, such as Google’s Android mobile operating system, for Intel chips. At the same time, Intel is building its own software ecosystem around an underdog, custom-built operating system called MeeGo. And it’s also opened its own app store for mobile programs running on Intel’s Atom mobile processor.

Industry observers look on skeptically, noting that a series of Intel initiatives have failed to put the company’s processors in phones, tablet computers and other hot gadgets.
