Sheets of steel are sent to Portland Waterjet, where blanks are carved by high-pressure streams of water and abrasive.
The blank is ground down until is starts to look like a blade.
Next: the blades are tempered in a high heat to increase strength and hardness.
Grinding and polishing until they shine.
Finally, the blades are honed on stone until Hunter can effortlessly scrape the hair off his arm.
The final product can be mounted in cases (called scales) typically made from wood and acrylic.
