The announcement did not yet specify which stores would close. Macy’s, which operates 770 stores, said the stores slated to close bring in about 1 percent of the company’s annual sales of $28 billion.
In a statement, Macy’s chief executive Terry Lundgren said physical stores were “absolutely vital” to its strategy.
