Three additional cities and three counties prohibit the consumption, sale and cultivation of recreational marijuana.

The new cities that are seizing on a rule by the Oregon Liquor Control Commission allowing jurisdictions to opt out of the new law if their residents voted against it are:

  • Island City
  • Nyssa
  • Sandy

The counties:

  • Harney
  • Malheur
  • Umatilla

The cities/counties already opted out:

  • Brownsville
  • Ontario
  • Vale
  • Douglas Co.

Residents will get another chance to vote on the ban in the upcoming election in Brownsville, Douglas Co., and Sandy.

Voters in Junction City will vote on allowing recreational marijuana stores and medical dispensaries in November after a unanimous vote by the City Council on Tuesday.

In Junction City, 50.6 percent of voters were against Measure 91, according to Lane County election results, so a ban can only take place if voters say in a separate election — now slated for November 2016 — that they don’t want local pot shops.

City leaders reviewed the proposed ordinances at a meeting last month. On Tuesday, there was very little discussion amongst Mayor Mike Cahill or the six councilors before they voted on the anti-marijuana ordinances.
