The car sharing service Car2Go announced it is planning to pull out of most of East Portland and St. Johns.

The company cited low usage rates in the area.

Cars parked in the areas being cut tended to sit unused for days, said Car2Go spokeswoman Adrianne Wright. She said the company wants its cars parked for just a couple of hours at a time, and in some areas the cars are used as many as 21 times a day.

“Our overall goal here is to make sure cars are in constant circulation,” Wright said. “We don’t want the cars to sit because not only does that affect overall availability, but it also impacts our sustainability (as a company).”
