Diamond Foods innovation center opens in Salem

Gov. Kate Brown celebrated the new center with a tour of the  7,000-square-foot complex near Kettle Foods factory.

The center, besides representing a doubling down on innovation, also represents of a doubling down of Kettle Foods by Diamond Foods Inc. Kettle Foods, the Salem-based maker of Kettle Chips, was purchased by Diamond Foods in 2010.

Mensch said that one of the main reasons for locating the center in Salem and near Kettle’s chip factory was due to the company’s history of innovation and being a role model for Diamond Foods. Other factors included access to Portland’s food industry and the talent pool available in the Mid-Willamette Valley.
