Team of Rivals By Doris Kearns Goodwin

“I’ve been meaning to read this book since it first came out. After seeing the movie Lincoln, which is based in part on this book, I was motivated to read it. Doris Kearns Goodwin is an interesting woman in her own right, and she is an excellent writer. I plan to read her book No Ordinary Time about Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt sometime soon.”

Gold in the Woodpile By Orin K. Burrell

“I periodically look for used copies of this book to share. I found one on Amazon last month from the original printing by the University of Oregon in 1967. It is an informal history of Oregon banking up to the mid 1900s. The title of the book stems from a story about how “country banks” had to stash cash in unusual places — like the woodpile — since vaults and safes were inadequate at the time.”
