The end of the Daily comes nearly two years after it was launched with much fanfare, as an effort to redefine news gathering in the digital age.

The media company disclosed Monday, as part of a broader announcement of more details about its coming split into two companies, that the Daily iPad app will cease publication on Dec. 15. The Daily’s editor in chief Jesse Angelo will become publisher of the New York Post, where some other Daily staff will also end up, the company said. News Corp. Chairman Rupert Murdoch said at the time of launch that “we believe the Daily will be the model for how stories will be told and consumed.”
