Davis Wright Tremaine is aiming to be first Big Law firm to add recreational marijuana to its services.

[Partner-in-charge in the Portland office Bill] Miner said Portland’s fourth largest law firm is responding to questions from its clients who need legal counsel to navigate a previously off-limits topic. Cultivating, processing, distributing and selling marijuana touches on real estate, business, employment, intellectual property, agriculture and other areas of the law. Since the firm already advises clients on medical marijuana matters, adding recreational marijuana was a logical extension, Miner said.

“Whether you voted for it or against it, it is the law and clients are asking questions,” he said. “We’re in this space now.”
