The largest container carrier notified customers Tuesday that it intends to drop Portland.

The Portland Business Journal first reported on Hanjin’s intentions to use a Seattle-to-Portland train route instead of shipping directly to the Port of Portland.

From Erik Siemers’ report:

“We apologize for any inconvenience from this change. However, we remain committed to providing efficient services to and from the Portland region. We appreciate your continued support in advance,” the company wrote in the unsigned letter to customers.

The letter appears to backup a report from The Oregonian earlier Tuesday that a long-term schedule from Hanjin indicates the company would cease calling on Portland after March 4.

Officials from ICTSI Oregon Inc., and the Port of Portland both told Siemers that they had not been explicitly told that Hanjin intends to skip Portland, but the PBJ published the company’s customer advisory in full.

Ports up and down the West Coast have been inundated with bad news due to labor strife that has been causing slowdowns for months and recently forced a weekend shutdown.
