The Portland mayor announced he was leaving his job as director of the City Club to lead a climate change initiative in Washington D.C.

Board president Karen Kervin said the City Club has convened a search committee to hire a replacement for Adams and expects to have a new executive director in place by April.

“We have an exceptional strategic plan in place and we’re looking to continue what we’ve accomplished in the past two years,” Kervin said. Since Adams came on board in 2013, the City Club has doubled the number of corporate sponsors, grown membership by 47% and added an equity focus to its Friday Forum series.

Adams announced his departure in an internal email sent to board members on Monday. Kervin says she wasn’t aware Adams was actively seeking another position. “But let’s just say we didn’t expect it to be a ten year gig,” she said. “We are grateful for the two years we had with Sam at the helm.”

In other former public figure news, ex-candidate for governor Ron Saxton was chosen to be on the board of the Swift Energy Company in Houston.

From the Portland Business Journal:

Saxton, 60, is a shareholder at law firm Schwabe, Williamson & Wyatt and previously served as executive vice president for Jeld-Wen, the Klamath Falls door and window manufacturer. He is a graduate of Willamette University and earned his law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law.

He unsuccessfully ran for governor in 2006 as the Republican nominee.
