The Hillsboro-based solar panel factory will expand its manufacturing capacity and add 200 full-time jobs.

Employment at the site had flagged in recent years, with “dumping” of solar panels from China flooding the market and putting the company on the precipice of failure. The company was reorganized last year, U.S. government pushback against Chinese companies’ hacking and overproduction, and the increase of U.S. orders jumped 50 percent in its third quarter. Employment at the Hillsboro site will rise to about 900 full-time workers.

“These jobs are worth fighting for, which is why I worked side-by-side with SolarWorld to ensure our trade agreements with China are actually enforced,” U.S. Sen. Ron Wyden told reporters at the Oct. 30 announcement. “An anchor of Oregon’s manufacturing base is again growing and proving the U.S. workers and employers can succeed against any nation in the world, as long and they’re competing on a level playing field.”
