Smith Optics will move its design center along with 35 employees to the Rose City in the first half of 2015.

The move by Ketchum, Idaho-based Smith is part of the company’s plans to move operations to three U.S. locations over the next few years.

In addition to the design center moving to Portland, the company also plans to:

  • Transfer approximately 20 manufacturing and distribution employees to Clearfield, Utah, in the second half of 2015. Clearfield will become the new global manufacturing center for all goggles made by Safilo companies.
  • Relocate 20 jobs in Smith’s informational technology, human resources and finance departments to Safilo USA headquarters in Parsippany, N.J., in 2017-2018.
