The State of Oregon approved the city’s request to add an Electronic Commerce overlay to its Enterprise Zone Program.

According to Amy Koski, economic development project coordinator and enterprise zone manager, the city applied to the state for E-commerce designation in May and was approved in July. The city made the announcement Sept. 4.

With the E-commerce designation, businesses that primarily run transactions electronically- such as making orders and closing sales- can receive additional benefits if accepted into the enterprise zone, Koski said. For example, businesses can get tax credit equal to 25 percent of investment costs and exemptions on personal property at a cost of $1,000 or more per item.
