Supporters of the initiative that would require the labeling of GMO foods plan to submit more than 100,000 signatures to the state elections office.

“We’re pretty excited,” said Sandeep Kaushik of Oregon Right to Know, “We did it in six weeks. We had a huge outpouring of grassroots support — hundreds of volunteers supporting our paid signature gatherers.”

Oregon was the first state to vote on GMO labeling, in 2002. That measure was defeated.
