Members of the Portland Association of Teachers will vote tonight on a possible walkout.

The vote, to be held at 7 p.m. at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall, follows nearly ten months of contentious negotiations between the union and Portland Public Schools, which educates nearly 48,000 students across the city.

If the walkout occurs, it would come at a peculiar time: the district is no longer under financial duress, expecting to start the new school year with more than $30 million in its reserves
