The Trail Blazers seem to have an advantage in the Memorial Coliseum’s proposal game.
Hundreds of ideas have been submitted for renovating the Memorial Coliseum, but the Portland Trail Blazers appear to have the lead with their much-hyped JumpTown plans.
But competitors argue that the team’s financial backing and ties with the city give it an unfair edge.
Matthew Miller, an architecture intern heading up the arts and athletic center proposal, says his group does not have the money needed to complete the detailed plans the council will ask for in April – a process officially called request for proposals.
“It could cost $200,000 or more to submit a good RFP, and that money’s hard to come by in the recession,” Miller says.
