Oregon’s economy may be thriving — and according to at least one economist, food costs less today than it did 30 years ago — but there’s a ready market for the increasing number of discount grocers in the state.

Central Oregon could soon get a new resort-style hotel, condo and bungalow complex. If the plans are approved, southern California builder R.W. Hertel & Sons could break ground in the early months of 2007.

Since 2001, Oregonians’ average wages have risen faster than inflation. At least this is true for workers covered by unemployment insurance — close to 90% of workers in the state.

After a quibble over price, the crab season launched in December with fishermen commanding $1.60 per pound for crab meat and battling winter storms to land their catch.
